From
their website: Before 1974, there was no facility in Nevada to
provide care to high-risk newborns. At that time, the state's
infant mortality rate stood at 14 per 1,000 births - a number
that was unacceptably high. In that year, Sunrise opened the state's
first neonatal intensive unit, the 44-bed Regional Neonatal Unit
III. Since it's opening, the unit has treated more than 20,000
infants, and Nevada's infant mortality rate is now among the lowest
in the country. To fully appreciate the impact we've had, consider
the following numbers: 88% of the infants bought to our unit are
able to leave. The national average is 69%. Babies cared for in
our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit also experience 8 % less eye
damage and are able to breathe without assistance 24 percent more
quickly than in other similar units. Since it's opening, Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit III has treated thousands of high-risk infants
from Nevada to surrounding states- setting a lofty standard in
successful high-risk infant care.
